Giving is hard.
People get used to taking so quickly,
And taking for granted even quicker,
Expecting the giving to continue,
As if what they're getting
Is already theirs.
And if the giving is withdrawn,
They feel resentful
And hurt,
And usually,
They want to hurt
The very person
Who gave to them.
Giving is hard.
People think that
Because you gave to them,
You expect something
From them,
Like their approval
Or their agreement
Or their body,
And so they patronize you
And bore you
With their empty adulation,
All the while demanding
More and more.
Giving is hard.
Especially, giving from your heart.
